Forward Deployed 'Actuarial' Engineer

Tesora is building next-generation software for insurance firms. We're working closely with innovative carriers and MGAs to automate the process of getting insurance from submission to bind.

Tesora is building agents for actuaries, starting with our AI-native actuarial workbench for specialty P&C carriers and MGAs. We are backed by Y Combinator and leading AI investors, and we work hands-on with carriers and MGAs to rebuild the underwriting and actuarial workflows that the industry still runs on spreadsheets.

As a Forward Deployed Actuarial Engineer, you sit at the intersection of our product and our customers. You will embed with design partners, translate messy real-world actuarial problems into product, and ship the workflows that get used in production. This is a high-ownership role for someone who wants to be close to both the customer and the code.

What you will do:

• Work directly with actuaries and underwriters at specialty carriers to map their rating, reserving, and pricing workflows
• Build and customize models, data pipelines, and product features that solve those workflows
• Turn customer feedback into product direction alongside our founding team
• Own deployments end to end, from first conversation to production usage

What we look for:

• Strong engineering fundamentals and comfort moving fast across the stack
• Genuine interest in insurance, actuarial science, or quantitative modeling (actuarial exam progress is a plus, not a requirement)
• Excellent communication and the confidence to be in front of customers
• Bias toward ownership and shipping

You will work closely with our founders and former chief actuary.

We are building our platform with a custom-designed DSL. Our vision is to automate all actuarial teams that deal with document processing, automations, excel models, etc.

Our process is designed to be fast and respectful of your time, typically completed within two weeks.

1. Intro call (30 min) with a founder to discuss your background and what we are building.
2. Technical conversation (60 min) covering engineering fundamentals and a practical problem relevant to the role.
3. Domain and product session (60 min) where we walk through a real actuarial workflow together and discuss how you would approach it.
4. Founder and team meeting to assess mutual fit, values, and how you think about ownership. This involves a work trial that is respectful of everyone’s time.
5. Reference calls and an offer.
